Dr Jackie Porter Consultant Anaesthetist

Dr Jackie Porter is a consultant anaesthetist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals with a specialist interest in obstetric anaesthesia.

She trained at University College Hospital Medical School, London, and qualified in 1987. Her anaesthetic training included a two-year period of research at St Thomas’ Hospital, investigating the effects of epidurals on the mother and the baby. She completed her MD degree in 2001.

She has published peer-reviewed papers in anaesthetic journals, and written a number of chapters for textbooks on obstetric anaesthesia.

She is the lead anaesthetist for the Acute Pain Services at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals. Dr Porter is also the anaesthetic member for the Intrapartum Subgroup at St Thomas’ Hospital; this committee writes guidelines, reviews practice and implements any changes on the Hospital Birth Centre, to ensure the safety of mothers and babies during labour and delivery.

She is a member of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, the Obstetric Anaesthetists’ Association and The British Medical Association.
